It was 42 degrees when I left the house this morning. When I got halfway up the mountain I realized that I’m not in very good shape right now.  It was a nice morning to sit.

I sat until around 10am in one of my favorite places. It’s a little grove of oak trees that act as a natural funnel as well as a feeding area for the deer. I’ve killed a few bucks there over the years. You can read about them in the chapter “The Mountain” in my upcoming book.

There’s a scrape I will talk about shooting a buck out of and when I looked at it today I realized that it has already been opened. There were a few rubs in the area, too. I saw a flock of turkeys about an hour after it got light. Besides that it was a rather boring morning. It felt good to get out in the woods again.

It warmed up to 80 degrees this afternoon, so I chose to avoid the bugs. I’ll be back at it in the morning. Maybe I’ll get lucky and have something wander by my stand. Only a month until I’m in the Midwest. Time passes too quickly………
