It’s in the Air

I can smell it in the air. All of you hunters know exactly what I’m talking about. A few days ago the temperature dropped so I decided to go for a walk in the woods. I wanted to see what was around for food and water.

I saw a few green acorns scattered across the forest floor, but no beechnuts. I’ve heard a lot of people talking about the abundance of acorns, but that definitely wasn’t the case in the area that I scouted.

I found a couple new runways that were pounded into the ground. Since it has been so dry it was hard to tell how much activity the runways were actually getting.

As I trudged along behind my dad a stick snapped me in the eye. At first I felt nauseous and my eye began to water. When I got home later that evening it felt like something was still in my eye. I went to the bathroom and inspected it. The problem was easy to see. I had a large scratch across the white part of my eye.

The next morning I was in a lot of pain. I couldn’t keep my left eye open. I made an appointment to see my eye doctor. After the doctor examined my eye he told me how lucky I was to be able to see. A fraction of an inch and I could have lost my vision. I’m pretty sure that I will now wear safety glasses when I’m walking in the woods when it’s dark. Although this happened in the daylight I want to be extra careful in the dark.

I set my new trail camera out tonight. The temperatures for the next few days are supposed to stay cool so I’m hoping to get a few pictures on the camera. I’m still in the testing mode with it so I set it up out behind the house. I’ll have to update everyone as to what happens when I check it in a few days…………………..until then, remember that we’re getting closer with every passing day. Hunt hard and hunt safe. Best,

T.
