The starts lit up the sky on my way to the stand this morning. I headed to my favorite place in the bowl. Shortly after daylight, I saw a big buck running through the corn field behind me. I let out an aggressive  grunt, and he turned on a dime and headed right toward me. Within seconds he was standing directly under my stand along with the doe he was chasing. I was on the edge about shooting him but finally chose to pass.

Around 10 o’clock I saw a coyote chase a doe and a buck past me. It couldn’t keep up to the deer, and they left him in the dust. After a little while, I decided to walk back to camp. Since it was a littler earlier than normal, I walked across the field and made my way along the creek bed just inside the woods. I figured I might bump into something. I wouldn’t be stirring anything up because I was only a stone’s throw away from the edge of the field.

When I got close to the road, I spotted a buck in the brush. It appeared to have a freak rack, so I got behind a tree and waited for it to get closer. One more peak around the tree let me know that it was a deer I wanted to shoot. It excited me. I probably should have taken more time to examine the rack, but the excitement of the moment kept me from taking my time.

I clicked on my Tactacam stabilizer and began recording the event. A few seconds after doing that, the hunt was over. The buck wasn’t what I thought it was when I chose to shoot it, but I still killed him on the ground with a bow and arrow, which is a feat no matter how you look at it. Here is the video I got on my stabilizer along with a few pictures of the buck.
