Today is the first day of bowhunting in the Northern Zone on last year’s tag. It was over 80 degrees today and really humid. With all of the rain we’ve had the bugs are absolutely horrendous. I didn’t get out of work until almost 6pm today and there’s no way I’m going in the woods until the bugs come down and the heat drops a little bit.

I don’t anticipate that I’ll be hunting much before I leave for vacation in early November. Life is definitely not like it was when I was younger. I simply have too many other things going on that take priority right now. Work has been driving me crazy and I need to focus on that for now.

I checked my camera the other day. I believe I got six different bucks on one set, which kind of amazed me. Too bad it’s in an area where I think maybe one of them will survive until next year. The sad part is that they’re probably all 1 1/2 years old.

I’ll see if I can find some pictures to share……………until next time……..try to hide on the bugs.

2011 Season

The last few weeks have been hectic. I’ve been out in the woods a few times to see if any nuts fell in a few areas I hunt. Although I heard a lot of people saying there were a lot of beechnuts and acorns I didn’t find any during my scouting trip. I did find a few rotten beechnuts, but that’s it.

I saw a few deer and a flock of turkeys. Besides those sightings I didn’t see much sign. The weather has been miserable and we’ve only had two nights that were even close to being “chilly.”

I put a couple of my trail cameras out last week. I wanted to make sure they were working okay and I wanted to check out a few places close to home. I’ll attach a few pictures at the end of this.

My book is pretty close to being done. I hope to have it to the printer before I leave for vacation in early November. If you check back I’ll be sure to let you know how it’s coming along. Good luck this season. Be safe and have fun out there.
